Ochre Partnerships

Working together to achieve real and sustainable growth in the Indigenous business sector

As Australia's first and leading advocate of Indigenous businesses within supplier diversity, Supply Nation believes that a collaborative and united approach is the key to achieving a truly sustainable, vibrant and prosperous Indigenous business sector.

This ethos underpins Supply Nation‘s partnerships with a wide range of influential organisations across the country that understand supplier diversity drives significant and measurable business benefits, and delivers lasting positivesocial impacts.

Why Ochre?

Ochres have always been highly valued and traded amongst Australian Indigenous people for painting and ceremonial purposes.

Ochre is a naturally occurring earth pigment. Different oxidised minerals give the ochre its colour, ranging from white, through yellow/gold, to reddish brown. The deeper the colour, the rarer and more valuable the ochre.

Ochre has been used in particular areas where no ochre naturally occurs, or where a particular colour of ochre isn’t available for hundreds or thousands of kilometres. This demonstrates that trade practices and business deals have been going in Australia for millennia, and make it a potent symbol for Supply Nation partnerships.

 Partnerships artwork by Jenny Wardrop

Jenny is a descendant of the Wiradjuri people, who originally occupied an area of central NSW. She was given the tribal name of 'Buuya Buuya' (meaning butterfly) by the Wiradjuri elders of Dubbo in NSW. Jenny's distinctive designs draw on the traditional stories handed down by her great grandmother, mother and aunt and her extended family.

"When creating my art, I use a combination of earthy and vibrant colours. These colours are inspired by the flora and fauna of the dry outback where I grew up and the coastal landscape where I now live."
